THE DECO' PROJECT
DECO' 2010 - DEsign è COmpetitività (Design is Competitiveness), now in its second year, is an initiative launched by the Region of Lombardy - Head Office for Crafts and Services, and its aim is to merge the creativity of young designers with the experience of Lombard companies in order to create prototypes that will be displayed at the Salone del Mobile 2010. An initial brief for participants under the age of 35 collected ideas in the theme areas of home decor (furnishing and accessories), office design (furnishings and accessories), and design for public and community spaces (urban furniture, furnishings for communities, lighting and signage). The Technical Evaluation Committee selected 46 projects and made them available to businesses enrolled in the project through another competition brief. The project offers young designers visibility within the sector, the change to see their idea come to fruition in an engineerable and marketable product, direct involvement with companies working in the industry, and the opportunity to establish new professional relationships. In turn, it offers companies the chance to work with young designers whose innovative ideas stimulate the launch of new products on the market, with visibility through exhibitions, a project catalogue, promotion in trade magazines and the drive to innovate.
